The Department of Military Science was established at the University of Oregon in 1919. Frederick Carlton Weyand (b. Sept. 15, 1916, Arbuckle, Calif.-d. Feb. 10, 2010, Hawaii), U.S. Army officer, graduated from university and received his commission through the ROTC program in 1938. Creighton W. Abrams was a United States (U.S.) Army officer. He was the commander of the U.S. Military Assistance Command in Vietnam (MACV) and was the Chief of Staff (CofS) of the Army.
